I like comic books.

I know my mother wishes I would grow up, maybe someday I will.

One of the things I enjoy is a good comic book. "Comics are for little kids," is what most people say. Of course 3/4 of the people saying that have never read a comic book. Nowadays, monthly comics are often collected and sold in trade paperback(and more and more hardcover) form only a few months after they are initially released. This is a good way to read comics that you are interested in or want to catch up on. It is cheaper and there are no ads.

Recently I got my sister Susan to read a hardcover version of the first 13 issues of Invincible. She came back a couple days later wanting more, so I gave her the second volume. within a week she had come back to get the third and fourth volumes. When I informed her that volume 5 has not been released(in hardcover and I wanted to wait to get it so my books match) she was a little annoyed. When I informed her that she had read 4+ years worth of the comic in a week, she said she didnt care she just wanted to know what happened next.

For those of you that buy TV shows on DVD, that is the equivalent of watching the first 4 seasons of 24 (or whatever show your really into) and then being told season five isnt out yet.

When you meet somebody that also reads comics it usually turns into a geekfest pretty quick(unless you run into them at the comic shop, any pretense of a normal is left outside the front door.) Who is better, Superman or Batman? Spider-man or Wolverine? DC or Marvel? Well, If you want to geek out with me my favorite characters are, Wally West and Daredevil. Although I have really enjoyed Captain America and Green Lantern lately.

I know most people will never give them a chance but comics are a part of my life, sorry mom.

Sunburned and unmotivated

So, last Wednesday I went boating on the Bear River with my buddy Will, and got very sunburned. Mostly on my feet, ankles, wrist and forehead. Yes, I did use sunblock. But I used it early in the morning and didn't bring any with me on the boat, and by the time we climbed out of the river at 2:00 PM I was toast.
This is a picture of the top of my left foot, today, almost 5 days later.Needless to say, I didn't feel like doing any exercises for a few days.On top of that I gave up on counting my calories. I was miserable, so I just didn't care. I also didn't eat that great as I ate out a couple of times with my sister Natalie. (also on an unrelated note my girlfriend broke up with me, so ya, not the best week.)

I was a little scared when I weighed myself this morning. I was worried that I could have gained 3 or 4 lbs, but much to my surprise I had lost 0.9 lbs.

I was also feeling pretty good, and was able to workout for about an hour.

So, I had my weekend to be miserable. Time to go back to my regularly scheduled program.

I'm Fat, but I'm working on it.

Alrighty, my brother Serge has mentioned that I should keep a blog about my weight loss. Who knows it might help me keep motivated.

On July 1st I weighed myself and I was 276 lbs EEK!! A new record, not that it is anything to be proud about. My mom has been really worried about my weight because she thinks it will lead to me having health problems like her (and she is probably right.) Well I guess that was it, I was just too fat! 276 lbs is ridiculous, I was disgusted with myself.

Now, I love food and was in denial that that could be part of the problem, so, I started to do a little exercise. The only problem is: I hate exercise. Imagine that, loves food + hates exercise = FAT man. So, What do I like? Movies, music, comic books, video games, reading... stuff that you can do while you are sitting down. I like sports and outdoors stuff to, but if you gave me a choice I would pick whatever activity I could do while sitting (preferably in my recliner with an ice cold drink.)

Well anyway, to make a long story short (too late) I decided that my Nintendo Wii has been collecting dust for the last six months and maybe there would be some games that could get me working up a sweat. It sounds silly, I know, but I really hate exercise and I thought maybe I could trick myself into doing some with the right game. After some research and trial and error I settled on Gold's Gym: Cardio Workout. I also got Wii Fit. Wii fit is really a waste as an exercise program. The interface is a mess, and there are more useless mini-games than good. But the balance board that comes with Wii Fit is excellent, and it can be used with Gold's Gym: Cardio Workout, although it really isn't needed. Wii Fit is good for setting goals and keeping track of your weight(the balance board is also a scale.)

I stopped drinking soda pop and and played various games throughout the first half of July.
On July 18th I weighed 269.4 lbs (
my first day with Wii Fit)
On July 28th, 267.6
At this point I gave in to the fact that I needed to watch what I eat and I started to count my calories. After about a week I had dropped from about 3000 calories (or more) a day to about 1500.
Anyway here is the progress from my first month recorded on Wii Fit:
(although I don't weigh mysef every day, I play Gold's Gym: Cardio Workout for 45 minutes or more most mornings except for Sunday)
July 29th, 267.0
July 30th, 265.4
Aug. 1st, 261.7
Aug. 4th, 257.9
Aug. 5th, 257.5
Aug. 7th, 257.3
Aug. 10th, 256.6
Aug. 11th, 255.5
Aug. 13th, 253.8
Aug. 18th, 252.0

So, since the first of July I've lost 24 lbs
and since keeping track with Wii Fit 17.4 lbs
Yay, hope I can keep it up.
